About this concert
Imogen Ryall is widely considered to be one of the leading voices of the UK jazz scene. Championed by Claire Martin OBE and many others, Imogen’s 2023 album ‘Imogen Ryall sings the Mingus/Mitchell Songbook’ was chosen for numerous “Best Of” lists by the likes of Jazzwise, All About Jazz and the NYC Jazz Record and in 2024 she showcased her impressive lyric writing on the album, ‘Songs’, co-written with the lauded Czech pianist and composer, Emil Viklický. Tonight's show is the launch of Imogen's latest album "On the Roof - the Music of Tom Harrell" alongside trumpet & flugelhorn player Chris Coull, whose playing takes inspiration from the great lineage of bebop trumpeters from early Miles through to Woody Shaw. The album, as well as the gig tonight, features Si Robinson-piano, Simon Woolf-double bass and Joe Edwards-drums and is comprised of eight compositions by acclaimed US trumpeter/composer Harrell with newly written lyrics by Imogen. Claire Martin called it “an absolute triumph” and we can’t wait to hear this inspired, sophisticated set of music live. "the honey-toned…voice of Imogen Ryall…combines…effortless precision with a warm, inviting sound, drawing the listener into her beguiling world” London Jazz News; “Exceptional” Jazzwise
