NOAH VANDEN ABEELE Biography
With his upcoming third album Magnolia, Noah returns to the essence. Back to when he played the piano for himself, in total freedom. This solo piano album reveals the unique bond he has built with his instrument. It sounds fragile, intimate, yet intense. Each piece balances between simplicity and complexity, with complete honesty.
He has been improvising on the piano since childhood, even before taking his first piano lessons.
Later, as Noah immersed himself in classical music and obtained his Master’s degree in piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the desire for freedom remained strong. “My relationship with music clashed with the rather conservative values and unspoken codes of the institution. But at the same time, I’m also grateful for the education. My music holds harmonic knowledge and technical richness. Without that training, I wouldn’t have reached this level.”
After a long journey—one with detours driven by a growing urge for change and renewal—the intimate connection with his piano only deepened.
Magnolia is the culmination of that long journey. The moment the flower unfolds or reaches full bloom, after enduring the seasons and forming strong roots.
Noah has already performed live in renowned venues and festivals such as Flagey Piano Days, the Mainstage of Gent Jazz, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and various Belgian concert halls. In addition to composing, Noah also shares his talent for improvisation with other artistic disciplines. For thirteen years, he has been one of the resident pianists at the Royal Film Archive CINEMATEK in Brussels, where he has improvised live for more than 600 silent films.
