Kate Simko Biography
One of dance music’s most unique and standout artists, Kate Simko combines her Chicago house background with a melange of influences.
Kate’s unique flavour of house music saw her welcomed onto the iconic Spectral Sound label alongside Matthew Dear, Ryan Elliot, Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, and Benoit & Sergio. Since then her catalogue has grown to include releases on Get Physical, Hello?Repeat, Leftroom, No.19, Sasha’s Last Night On Earth imprint, and Jamie Jones’ Emerald City.
A classically trained pianist with roots in the iconic Chicago scene, her musical background shines throughout. Whether remixing Philip Glass to Guy Gerber, touring an interactive audio-visual live set, or forming her own ensemble London Electronic Orchestra, Kate pushes the boundaries of dance music. Named one of Chicago’s “Top 10 DJs” by XLR8R Magazine, Kate has performed at some of the world’s leading locations such as Berghain, Panorama Bar, Warung, fabric, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Movement Festival, MUTEK, Eleven, Output, and Bestival.
Kate began DJing on WNUR radio in Chicago in the early 2000’s. From there she went on to release her first album with Andres Bucci on Traum Records, and has since released numerous albums, EPs, and film soundtracks.
Now London-based, in 2014 Kate completed a masters in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music and launched her genre-bending project London Electronic Orchestra, which has made waves at iTunes Festivall, LEAF festival, Latitude Festival, Heart Ibiza, and most recently a show stopping performance at the iconic Festival No 6.
2016 saw her stunning self titled Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra album released on The Vinyl Factory, which includes collaborations with Jamie Jones, Katy B, and Parra for Cuva. Melodic, driving, jacking and funky, Kate’s distinctive sound continues to inspire dance floors across the globe.
