The Monarchs Biography
High-octane rock and roll band from Sydney, Australia, formed in 1999 and split in 2002, though they reformed for a show in 2007 and plan to reunite again in 2008 for at least one show. The band was originally founded by Brad Shepherd while his long-term band, Hoodoo Gurus was on an extended break. Joining Shepherd was his brother, Murray Shepherd who had previously been the drummer for the Screaming Tribesmen, bass player Andy kelly from Glide, and guitarist Greg Hitchcock from The Verys and You Am I, among others.
Familiar territory for fans of New Bomb Turks or The Hellacopters (if they had a sense of humour). - nickcarr
UPDATED information from The Monarchs' official sites:
The Monarchs plan to play at least one major show in 2008, date to be announced. The album Make Yer Own Fun was released in 2001 and is currently out of print, but the Shepherds are shopping for another label currently for potential re-release. Murray Shepherd has also stated there are enough tracks written for a second album if they can just get the band in the studio, so a followup CD could yet be in the future.
Six tracks from Make Yer Own Fun are available for listening on The Monarchs' official MySpace profile, http://www.myspace.com/themonarchsonline. Also, a new official website for the band is scheduled to open in 2008.
There is also another band to go by the name The Monarchs. They were a garage/punk rock band from southeastern Michigan that released a few 7 inches between the years of 1992 to 1996. In 1995 they released their only LP titled Et Vincere Et Mori on Pin-Up Records.
