About this concert
Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer and Lauren Kinhan of New York Voices bring their lovingly curated vocal salon uptown to The Iridium. Vocal Gumbo is a soulful and diverse recipe of New York Citys rich singer community, featuring legends alongside up and coming talent, vocal groups, improvisors, out of towners who happen to crash the party, and practitioners of the vocal arts from all cultures and genres. Accompanied by world class instrumentalists, the night opens with the singing Vocal Gumbo dynamic duo, followed by the featured special guest artist - who often collaborates on a song or two with Janis and Lauren. The line up continues with a beautiful flow of singers emerging from the audience to offer their own flavor to the night. Vocal Gumbo celebrates the mission of DEI and uses its platform to engage, promote and give voice to the importance of doing good work, raising people up and singing into the good fight. Expect the unexpected and bring your friends, one show is never the enough. Join our piquant premiere on May 21st at The Iridium with our very special guest, Grammy nominated contemporary jazz vocalist Christie Dashiell. You dont want to miss this superstar on the rise and the bounty of artists we are lined up for this occasion.
