About this concert
Keplers music uses slowness as a microscope: it might seem plain or static at first, but cracks, abysses, mysteries and miracles are gradually revealed. Every detail reveals its depth, and the minimal becomes poetic. The pieces are short, most of the time, finely chiseled, mesmerizing with their play on resonances, echoes and textures. They are also haunted by true melodies, the other essential aspect of this musical journey. The trio is influenced as much by Brian Eno or Arvo Part, as by Schumann or Keith Jarrett.-Visit edmontonjazz.com for more about the 2025 Edmonton International Jazz Festival. Support for the Edmonton International Jazz Festival is provided by TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment.

Kepler Biography

Kepler was an Ottawa-based Canadian indie rock band started in 1996. The band had many different members over the course of its existence, including Jeremy Gara (now of Arcade Fire), Samir Khan, Jon Georgekish-Watt, Mike Sheridan, Michael Feuerstack, Mike Dubue, and Jordy Walker (as well as a variety of guest musicians).

Kepler initially garnered attention for its exceptionally slow and quiet sound, reminiscent of groups such as Low, Codeine, and Bedhead. The band toured across Canada, the United States, and Europe, once opening for Montreal's Godspeed You! Black Emperor in the United Kingdom.

During the recording of their last record, drummer, guitarist and keyboardist Jeremy Gara left to join Arcade Fire. The remaining band members assembled a group that played a few shows around the release of the last record Gara played on, Attic Salt. The group disbanded in early 2006.
