Luke Herbert Biography
Drummer & Percussionist, Luke Herbert was born in Sydney Australia. Herbert is an International musician having started his musical journey at age 7, studying classical piano. Since then he has not stopped studying and playing music. At age 12 and during high school he studied drumkit, time keeping and cooking lessons with Lloyd G, starting with Al Jackson Jr grooves. Also during high school he received a position in the drum line in the worlds largest marching band, the 2000 member Olympic Band studying under David Glyde ( Blue Devils) playing in the Sydney 2000 opening Cermony Olympics and related events. Whilst living in New York City, Herbert studied drums with the late, great legendary Jazz drummer, Joe Morello of Dave Brubeck Quartet and with "The Hit Maker"- Bernard Purdie.. He is also indebted to the musicality of Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Levon Helm and Steve Gadd.. Herbert is also a Classically trained percussionist studying for several years under renowned percussionist Joshua Hill ( Synergy Percussion, Opera Australia) at The Australian Insititute of Music in Surry Hills, Sydney. Luke has had a varied career as a session musician and touring drummer, in Australia he has worked with many singer/ songwriters, notanly with Brian Cadd of 60's rock band, Axiom & Stevie Wright of The Easybeats, Fanny Lumsden, William Crighton and The Circus Men, Kevin Bennett of The Flood, Jeremy Edwards, Mike McClellan, Luke O' Shea, Jasmine Rae, D Henery Fenton, Melanie Horsnell, Suzy Connolly to name a few. In 2008, Herbert relocated to Nashville TN for several years under sponsorship by Tommy Emmanuel’s management company.in the US Herbert worked as a studio and touring musician as drummer of band “The Deep Vibration” (Dual-tone Records). Notably named by the late great, Lou Reed. In Nashville he also worked with Andrew Combs, Simon Bruce, Caitlin Rose, Jesse and Noah Bellamy and in the studio along side heavy weight studio musicians such as Al Perkins, Spooner Oldham and producer Niko Bolas. 2015 has seen Herbert touring Australia with many varied artists covering many different scenes in the music industry.
