The Mexican Band Los de Abajo discovered by David Byrne (Talking Heads) in 1998 celebrates its
28th anniversary in 2020. From university friends till now among its members are
professional musicians who have contributed to the band music in convergence of different kinds of
styles. The singular brass section, fused with mestizo rock, gives them a salsa-like taste with reggae
doses, cumbia, funk, merengue, son jarocho, ska and even polka characterized by being one of the
most important bands of the world music circuit internationally including also one album with Peter
Gabriel label Real World Records, one Jools Holand "Later" TV show in London and the 2003 Best
Americas Band by BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music.
They have made 27 tours in more than 30 countries with highlighting presentations in Glastonbury,
WOMAD Festivals, Sziget, Roskilde, LAMC, Globalquerque and other recognized festivals, allowed
them to show its popular mexican culture on the map of the arts in all over the world.
