DARRO Biography

-filling the hole in my brain with emo music-

text me +1.717.899.9629

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Asian-American artist Darro is fusing together the strongest and catchiest elements of early 2000s emo and pop-punk to form his own hybrid sub-genre of alternative anthems.

While Darro’s hypnotic instrumentation paired with his smooth vocal range elevates each of his singles to an upbeat soundscape, the singer/songwriter has had to walk through hell to get to where he is today. After releasing his debut EP ‘Nostalgia’ in 2017, the then 24-year-old musician was diagnosed with a brain tumor that required surgery and rehabilitation that saw him re-learning to speak and sing.

Despite his hardships, Darro persevered and utilized his recovery as inspiration to release his debut full-length album Songs of Recovery in November 2020. Though met with life’s unexpected difficulties, Darro’s debut garnered critical acclaim on various charts, including #11 on the iTunes Rock Albums, and became emblematic of his journey.

Growing steadier and stronger in his craft while establishing a compelling fanbase seeking the nostalgia of the aughts, Darro has been praised by the likes of Billboard, Medium and Alternative Press. Through his spearheaded dedication, he is singlehandedly redefining a sonic landscape that was lost to years of genre-bending to create a true-to-form alternative listening experience that will effortlessly earn repeated plays.
