Rotation Biography
"Michigan has got to be one of the most depressing places in America," says Rotation's charismatic front man Andy, "Everyone is out of work, everyone is poor and the people who can afford it are moving away." This bleak, cold backdrop is where the five-piece rock outfit draws their inspiration. With a dark, futuristic look, thought-provoking lyrics and a heavy-handed approach to the music this band has fast become a force to be reckoned with in the region. "This definitely isn't California, says guitarist Sonic, "We have to work three times as hard just to survive out here." And with that hard-working, DIY attitude the quintet continues to define itself with larger than life anthems and artistry. With heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics and organic, yet precision production, Rotation pushes the envelope further with each endeavor. Coupled with packed headlining shows and sharing the stage with bands like Falling In Reverse, We The Kings, Sick Puppies, Sleeping With Sirens, Mayday Parade, Chiodos, Chevelle, even Slipknot- Rotation's genre-bending music continues to grow an already large and dedicated fan base. "We have one foot in alternative rock and the other in the underground scene," says Andy. "It's been tough, but we've stayed true to our vision regardless of trends. The biggest bands that have ever came out did their own thing and did it apologetically." The band independently released their first full length album 'The Curse of 1990' in December 2009. Singles were quickly picked up by 150 college and commercial radio stations. Although the success of ‘The Curse of 1990’ was growing, much of the material on that album didn’t reflect where the band was musically. Instead of taking time off from the studio process Rotation returned to write and record 20 songs, many of which would become their latest album. Entitled ‘Years of Therapy’, the second LP from Rotation delves much deeper musically and lyrically than their previous efforts. The music takes hints from both contemporary rock and classical composures, and doesn’t shy away from difficult subject matter. ‘Years of Therapy’ touches on subjects ranging from life after death to quantum physics, religion to the UFO phenomenon- yet still is accessible to the casual listener. The unreleased songs caught the ear of Greg Archilla, the Grammy-nominated producer of bands like Safety Suit and Candlebox. Rotation quickly headed to Nashville and began writing some strong singles with Greg. “We want to give the audience a reason to think, says vocalist Andy, “Rock music today really underestimates people’s intelligence. Everyone’s talking, but nobody is SAYING anything.” As the industry scrambles to find balance, this band remains rock solid with a commitment to quality, theatrics and artistic vision. Rotation is currently hard at work writing and tracking for ‘Years of Therapy’ and is gearing up for touring and a release. One thing is certain- Rock will never be the same. Oh, the irony of it all.
