About this concert
The Grand Illusion and Seattle Erotica Cinema Society (SECS) present a brand new restoration of what The New York Times dubbed a benchmark of underground gay cinema, James Bidgoods PINK NARCISSUS. A handsome, self-involved, and brooding young sex worker (Bobby Kendall) escapes the realities of his street life through a series of fantasies of incredible beauty. Obsessed with his own perceived perfection, he lives in a dreamworld of captivating colors, magnificent music, elaborate costumes and strikingly attractive males. In a series of eye-popping sequences he imagines himself in a variety of intense roles from matador to Roman slave to harem leader with his room as an exquisite jewel-encrusted retreat. But reality constantly intrudes through the depraved lives of the other street people, the harsh and ugly sounds outside, and visits from his johns. Ultimately, his narcissistic enchantment with his own beauty and lifestyle is marred by one great fear aging and loss of his youth. At once phantasmagoric and kaleidoscopic, the stunning new restoration of this 70s underground sensation burns just as bright if not brighter. Please note: This film contains material of an explicit nature. Viewer discretion advised. The feature presentation will be preceded by a Best of SECS Fest 2024 short, Angelo by Helias Doulis.

Pink Narcissus Biography

Pink Narcissus formed in 2009 without a preconceived genre, subsequently they developed a sound that is uniquely theirs. All members bring their own, contrasting influences, be it from poetry, French Chanson music, punk, funk, metal, klezmer, The Muppet Show and more. These influences fuse together to create a sound that their original guitarist Paddy Longlegs dubbed “Freak Rock”, The NME branded “flamboyant, confrontational art rock” and journalist and author Simon Price described as “David Bowie meets Rage Against The Machine”. In 2016 Lilith Ghost became lead guitarist, performing on a live broadcast of their track Disinfectant, this was among the last footage shot in Wembley’s legendary Fountain Studios where such atrocities as The X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent were commited. The clip reached over 20,000 views within a few days. This year pigs will fly as Pink Narcissus are about to finally release their long awaited EP Pig Miracle Day in collaboration with the band's second guitarist Liam McMillan. Today, having headlined Brighton’s 2017 Trans Pride already this summer, they are currently working on new material. Freak Rock - est 2009.
