Pink Oculus Biography

Esperanza Denswil’s alter ego Pink Oculus was born from a single moment of clarity. A vision of complete transparency, pushing her in the right direction of propagating self-love. The Dutch-Surinamese vocalist, producer, and composer rose to quick acclaim with her unique blend of electro, hip-hop, soul, and funk, with a futuristic take, making Pink Oculus a force to be reckoned with—on and off the stage, in sound and colour.

Through her music and appearance, Pink Oculus radiates powerful feminine energy that is matched by few. Framed by production-heavy beats, she can switch from raging flows to a sweet soothing voice with incredible range. An unapologetic presence since her breakthrough in 2013, Pink Oculus has been drawing eyes and ears exactly in the way she wants it.

After releasing several singles and her debut EP ‘Delicious’ through TopNotch/Universal in 2016, Pink Oculus conquered the stages with standout performances all over Europe. Her impressive energy and unique synergy with her band quickly made her star rise. She performed at major European festivals like Glastonbury (UK), Transmusicales (FR), Great Escape (UK) and North Sea Jazz and played as a supporting act to Anderson.Paak in 2017.

In 2021, after a two-year hiatus, Pink Oculus returns centre stage with ‘Before Wisdom’ a multifaceted project that introduces a new sound, a new band and a new live show. The namesake album, which will release in 2022 reflects on a difficult time in her life, resulting in personal growth and newfound independence. In the song ‘KUNG FU’, she sings: “I feel I can breathe again, I speak without fear again, sit in my seat again.” It is a testament to Pink Oculus’s comeback, returning to the confident entity she was during her breakthrough, yet this time with the experience of a woman who has been through life before wisdom.
