Matt Cornell Biography
Matt Cornell is a talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has worked and toured with the likes of Richard Clapton, Shannon Noll, Jenny Morris, Damien Leith and iconic rock band, The Baby Animals and most recently with Australian Country superstar Adam Brand. Having already established a reputation as an impressively energetic and engaging live performer, who undertakes the rarely seen practice of playing bass while performing lead vocals, the release of Matt Cornell on September 5, 2014 sees him make a very impressive music statement as a recording artist and songwriter. "Matt Cornell is first and foremost a wonderful musician. He writes songs that speak to the Australian heartland. He writes about real people with real emotion," says Jenny Morris. Now, as an artist who has found his true home in country music, Matt Cornell takes to the genre's core values with beautifully written new songs and uniquely sublime vocals on this album. "This album has been almost two years in the making, I've given it my all, it's a great representation of who I am as a person and as an artist. I've collaborated with some amazingly talented people and I'm so proud of this record. These songs mean a lot to me and I hope they touch you in some way," says Matt Cornell. Cornell established a strong creative bond and friendship with APRA nominated and Golden Guitar winning writer Mike Carr during the album's song writing process. This partnership became one of the key components of Matt Cornell. Other song writing contributors include hit song writers David Lee Murphy, Anthony Smith and Jeffrey Steele. Matt Cornell is produced by acclaimed multi-award winning producer Matt Fell (Sara Storer, McAlister Kemp, John Williamson, Ian Moss). The album was mixed in LA by Paul Lani (Robbie Williams, Prince, U2, Shania Twain). The album features the Top #20 Australian Country singles 'Days To Remember' and 'Give It To Me' plus the new single 'Outta This Town' - now at CMC & radio stations. Matt Cornell has graced the stages of SXSW in Austin Texas, New York's CBGB's, London's The Borderline and Sheppard's Bush Empire, to The Roxy and The Viper Room in LA. Matt Cornell has an intriguing family musical history. His uncle George Assange was the first Australian to land a US record deal. While Matt's father Wayne Cornell was the lead singer of The Deltones back in the 60's and sings on the famous South Sydney Rabbitohs anthem, 'Glory Glory To South Sydney'. The Rabbitohs have a proud indigenous heritage, as does Matt. His granddad was born on Thursday Island. Music fans recently voted Matt Cornell a 2014 CMC Music Awards New Oz Artist of the Year finalist and he will launch his new album project when opening for Adam Brand's My Side Of The Street National Tour in September & October 2014. "Aussie country fans are about to find out what all the buzz is about because this album [Matt Cornell] is full of great songs!" says Adam Brand.
