About this concert
Moe's Alley presents 45 Grave with special guests Dark Ride and Critical Response! Sunday, June 29th Doors: 6pm / Show: 7pm $25 in advance / $30 day of the show 21+ 45 GRAVE Forming in 1979 from Hollywood, 45 Grave scorched MTV with their hit songs “Evil” and “Partytime” – from the cult classic movie “Return of the Living Dead”. Today the Queen of Deathrock, Dinah Cancer, performs all the 45 Grave favorites from the legendary album Sleep in Safety as well as modern tracks like “Night of the Demons” from the 2010 movie release. There may even be a few from the elusive album “Autopsy”. DARK RIDE The Bay Area's premiere "Horror-Punk" band, Dark Ride has quickly established a following with their melodic, punk-rock anthems influenced by the likes of The Misfits, AFI and Alkaline Trio. Since the release of their debut EP in 2021 has played all over the US and will soon be releasing their first full length record "Blade Manor". The passion project of Santa Cruz native Emilio Menze (Stellar Corpses, Ambivalence, Plan 9). CRITICAL RESPONSE Since their debut in 2022, Critical Response, led by charismatic frontwomen Celina Bottini, has been wowing audiences around the SF and Monterey Bay area. Their sound is a mix of old-school punk, rock, grunge, and blues, melding it into a raw, relentless and uncompromising mix. While not overtly political, Bottini writes to empower women. She rants, screams, and sings with conviction, often all in the same song. The rhythm section includes Mark Hanford on bass and backing vocals (ex-Haggis – Boise, ID and SA90, of which Bottini was also a member) and Nick Priess. They lay down a solid backbeat for the grungy guitar of Ms. Lani White, teacher by day, rocker by night.

45 Grave Biography

Formed in 1979 in Los Angeles, 45 Grave was a horror punk band that emerged during the l.a. punk movement. They created, along with Christian Death, their own hybrid subgenre of horror punk and goth rock which would later come to be known as "deathrock." The original lineup consisted of Dinah Cancer on vocals, Paul Cutler on guitar, Rob Ritter (also known as Rob Graves) on bass, and Don Bolles of The Germs on drums. The band evolved out of a proto-industrial music band called Vox Pop, who recorded two singles and played around the Los Angeles area, including an opening slot for the final performance of Throbbing Gristle in Culver City. Vox Pop contained all of the members of 45 Grave as well as others such as Jeff Dahl. Vox Pop continued to coexist with 45 Grave until early 1981.

In 2005, to commemorate its 25th anniversary, 45 Grave reformed with an all new lineup, Dinah Cancer being the single remaining member from any previous incarnations. The band, however, has the blessing of the ex-members. Dinah Cancer posted on her MySpace blog, "I'm building this to keep the spirit of 45 Grave alive, introduce its magic to new fans, and as a personal commemorative of my best memories being the driving force and front person of 45 Grave. This is a part of my life that indeed changed me forever."
