Newen Afrobeat is een Chileense band en heeft een belangrijke naam binnen het afrobeat-genre. Ze hebben een plek veroverd in de wereldmuziek, jazz en afrobeat. Met concerten in Amerika, Afrika en Europa heeft de band internationale erkenning gekregen. Ze werkten samen met Afrobeat-legendes Tony Allen en Femi Kuti, die hun stijl en sound omarmden. Newen Afrobeat heeft een uniek geluid en een boodschap van culturele verbinding tussen Latijns-Amerika en Afrika. Hun energieke en kleurrijke optredens blijven trouw aan de sociale thema’s in hun teksten. Ter ere van hun 15-jarig bestaan brengt de band de plaat ‘Grietas’ uit, dat ze tijdens de show gaan presenteren. Hiermee zet de band een stap richting een modernere en frisse sound, waarin hun kenmerkende Afrobeat-stijl wordt gecombineerd met invloeden uit jazz, latin en rock.

Newen Afrobeat Biography
With an over 5 year career, this chilean afrobeat orchestra is today recognized as one of the most impressive and fresh-styled projects around the world, emphasizing its on-stage mood and highly energetic show. They have had on-stage guests such as gender legends Tony Allen, Oghene Kologbo, Femi and Seun Kuti, performing shows in major musical festivals and gigs through Chile, Brazil, France, Nigeria and U.S.A. After their successful first homonymous album (independent, 2013) Newen Afrobeat is nowadays promoting their second release named “Newen Plays Fela”, a Fela Kuti tribute EP which includes two of his classic songs performed in a very Newen-like style. Their second LP release is scheduled for the final months of 2017, in which songs like “Uyuni” explore the alchemy between afrobeat and traditional folklore of the Andes.
