Dutch Mustard Biography
Netherlands-born, London-based Dutch Mustard marries a blend of ethereal dream-pop and 90s alt-rock with timeless shoegaze touches. The overall soundscape layers abstract drones and washes with bouncing psych-infused guitar lines, whilst SJ’s vocals drift between a borderline whisper and heaven-directed lung-bursts.
In 2022 she released her debut EP An Interpretation of Depersonalisation, which was quickly featured by the BBC, getting airplay on Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders and being selected by none other than rock's enduring sage Iggy Pop. This was followed by the Beauty EP in 2023, which saw similar acclaim - notably with multiple spins from Lauren Laverne on 6 Music, as well as backing from Don Letts and Amy Lamé.
Press wise The Independent, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, DORK and Notion have supported in the UK - and perhaps most tellingly she was picked out by The Grammy Awards Site as one of ‘6 Female Fronted Acts Reviving Rock’ alongside Wet Leg, and others.
Since her debut release SJ has spent time writing and experimenting creatively, while also juggling bar work at one of London’s infamous music haunts, and engineer work at a prestigious North London studio. Surrounding herself with music at all times and always pushing to learn from those around her has made for a formidable band leader.
