William Lamoureux - musician Biography

William Lamoureux is a composer, arranger, producer and musician based in Toronto, Ontario. William specializes in music for film and television, music for online media, contemporary dance music and live music. His compositions combine orchestral, acoustic, electronic and ambient elements, which create immersive and impactful atmospheres that blend perfectly with the narratives presented.

In film and television, he composed the music for the critically acclaimed documentary film, Far Far Est, by adventure filmmaker Zacharie Turgeon. The film premiered at the 2020 Banff Mountain Film Festival. He also worked as an arranger and solo violinist for the New Babyl Orchestra, performing for the Hulu streaming platform's original television series, Utopia Falls, with supervisor musical David Hayman, composer Nikhil Seetharam and producer Boi-1da. He also writes jingles for the CBC television/podcast program, Because News, hosted by Gavin Crawford. He also composed the theme music for Gavin Crawford's new podcast, which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2023.

In addition to his work in film and television, William's writing can also be heard in commercials commissioned by Sleep Country, The Hudson's Bay Company, Quebec housing company Sinistar, and Gatineau microbrewery Les Brasseurs du Temps, among others. He has been a freelance composer for Vapor Music and Boombox Sound for the past four years.

William, in collaboration with Jasper Gahunia, wrote the original soundtrack for the contemporary dance group RUBBERBAND's production, Ever So Slightly. Since its debut in 2018, the show has been very well received across Canada, the United States and Europe. The film 𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑆𝑜 𝑆𝑙𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑆𝑙𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑙𝑦/𝑉𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑢𝑐𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 - 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑒, featuring the music of William and Jasper was awarded the “Best Original Music” Prize at the South Film and Arts Academy Festival in Chile. Still with Jasper Gahunia and Stephen Krecklo, he also wrote a musical piece for the Ballets Jazz Montréal’s production Essence entitled We can't forget about what's his name, which premiered in August 2022.

As a songwriter, his original compositions for world music quartet So Long Seven contributed to their nomination as Instrumental Group of the Year at the 2019 Folk Music Awards. For So Long Seven's most recent album titled only elephants know her name, released in September 2022, he combines the roles of performer, composer and director. His songs for the Quebec rock group Billy Love Band led to national recognition in the French-Canadian music industry, being chosen to participate in the two most important singer-songwriter showcases, Les Francouvertes and the Festival International of the Chanson de Granby. He won the public choice award at both festivals with his songs. His most recent project, entitled ceryyse, in collaboration with Benaias Lemma, the album je sais qu’au fond de mon âme se trouve un jardin, was very well received in the industry and led to a two-year agreement with the Québec firm Ray-on for image synchronization.

Originally from Gatineau, Québec, William Lamoureux studied classical violin at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Gatineau under Christian Vachon and Alexandre Da Costa from 2004 to 2013. In September 2013 he moved to Toronto to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Performance violin at Humber College, where he studied violin with Drew Jurecka, improvisation with Alastair Kay, Ted Quinlan, Kirk McDonald & Pat La Barbera, and voice with Denzal Sinclaire & Elaine Overholt. Since making his home in Toronto, he has had the opportunity to work with such acclaimed composers and arrangers as the legendary Nelly Furtado; Grammy Award-nominated/winner producers T-Minus, Gray Hawken, Ido Zmishlany, and Maneesh; artists Wild Rivers, Alessia Cara, Tobias Dray, Hugh Marsh, Kevin Breit and Jasper Gahunia, among others. In addition to a busy schedule of freelance work, William also makes teaching the violin a priority, specializing with young people aged 5 to 12.
