The Dirt Deacons Biography

The Dirt Deacons have an instinctual ability to summon soulful sounds and skillfully inject their music with the raw energy of a sweat-drenched juke joint.

Their music blends gritty, soulful vocals with southern rock, classic R&B, and blues melodies, weaving guitar rhythms and fierce string-bending passion in and out of every pass. The fervor of it all is tied together with funky rollicking bass lines, and just the right balance of driving and jazz-infused drumming.

The Dirt Deacons formed in late 2019, just months before mandated shut downs of venues stopped live music performances in its tracks for over a year.

The band bided their time with consistent rehearsals throughout 2020. By the time the group finally accepted an invitation to perform at a musicians showcase in December of that year, they had shaped a solid set list of songs and had begun experimenting to find their own grip on classic rock tunes, blues standards and a few other gems they picked up along the way.

The stated goal from the start was to ease into live shows. However, a video recorded by an audience member of the bands short 30-minute performance was shared on social media. As a result “easing” into live shows was no longer an option.

The Dirt Deacons began receiving offers to play venues around the Jackson Metro area, which quickly expanded to other areas of Central Mississippi by mid-year. By the end of the Summer of 2021 the band had played 40 dates in just a few months, considerably expanding their footprint into more and more venues across Mississippi.

Late in 2021 additional interest put the band on course to perform a handful of festivals, as anxious planners and promoters put the lock-downs of public gatherings behind them to re-establish music events across the South.

As wider audiences began to take notice of The Dirt Deacons show, the band continued to expand and sharpen their song list. They have a way of spontaneously melding hard rocking intensity and gritty soul into one identity, then giving it over to the upswept frenzy of a revival.

The Dirt Deacons continue to convert fans by conjuring the spirit of iconic southern sounds, pumping their music with raw emotion that bleeds onto the stage.

These guys love every moment of what they do on stage, and it shows. Their infectious energy is pumped into a set list that audiences can’t help but love. The Dirt Deacons’ live show simply refuses to let you sit still.
