About this concert
🎶 The Klezmatics – Live at Chicago City Winery! 🎶 📅 May 28, 2025 | 📍 City Winery Chicago ✨ With Special Guest: Fugu Dugu ✨ 🔥 The Klezmatics: Transforming Klezmer, Redefining Boundaries 🔥 The Grammy-winning klezmer superstars return to Chicago for a special performance at City Winery! Since emerging from New York’s East Village in 1986, The Klezmatics have redefined klezmer, blending its Eastern European Jewish roots with jazz, Latin grooves, Middle Eastern beats, and punk energy. They are the only klezmer band to win a Grammy, receiving the 2006 Best Contemporary World Music Album award for Wonder Wheel: Lyrics by Woody Guthrie. Their 13 acclaimed recordings have topped the Billboard World Music charts, and their work has been featured in theater, dance, film, and television, including A Dybbuk, Pilobolus Dance Theatre’s Davenen, PBS’s Great Performances, and HBO’s Sex and the City. Their list of legendary collaborations includes Itzhak Perlman, Tony Kushner, Chava Alberstein, Arlo Guthrie, Theodore Bikel, Holly Near, Natalie Merchant, Joshua Nelson, and Beat poet Allen Ginsberg. The Klezmatics have performed in over 20 countries at renowned venues and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Central Park SummerStage, WOMAD, Colours of Ostrava, Yidstock, and Yiddish Summer Weimar. 🌟 2025: A Year of Musical Evolution 🌟 As they prepare for their 40th anniversary in 2026, The Klezmatics are working on a brand-new album. This show will feature an exclusive preview of their latest music! PRESS RAVES: 🗞 Time Out New York: “On a good night, The Klezmatics can rank among the greatest bands on the planet.” 🎤 NPR: “At the genre’s forefront while pushing it in new and innovative directions.” 💃 Jewish Chronicle: “Just try to watch them and not a) weep or b) stop yourself dancing.” 🌟 Special Guest: Fugu Dugu – Folk-Punk Chaos with Klezmer Roots 🌟 A female-led folk-punk explosion, Fugu Dugu fuses Moldovan, Balkan, and klezmer influences with raw, high-energy rebellion. Their wild mix of gypsy violins, pounding rhythms, and multilingual storytelling turns every show into an electrifying experience. 🎻 A Special Connection to The Klezmatics 🎻 Fugu Dugu premiered their Hanukkah tribute to The Klezmatics at a packed City Winery show in 2024, a performance that left the crowd roaring. Their reimagined version of a Klezmatics Hanukkah classic became the most-played new Hanukkah song on streaming, proving their ability to bridge tradition and innovation.

Very exciting performance by the amazing Klezmatics. Didn’t appreciate female impersonator put down of Jewish women featured in Mostly Kosher program. Anti-female and anti-Semitic performance was not needed in this strong musical evening. I would not recommend the program if it includes this garbage in the future.
