Sea Wolf Biography
Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter Alex Brown Church has been releasing music through his main musical project Sea Wolf since 2007’s debut album, Leaves in the River. When that album’s lead single You’re a Wolf made a splash, Church and his band quickly found a place in the indie music landscape, going on to permeate independent radio, extensive touring, festival appearances, film and TV soundtracks and building a devoted fanbase while releasing four more albums along the way: White Water, White Bloom (2009), Old World Romance (2012), Song Spells No. 1: Cedarsmoke (2014) and Through a Dark Wood (2020).
As an NYU film graduate and product of an upbringing in Berkeley’s intellectual frontier and foggy NorCal seascapes, Church’s aesthetic, and filmmaker sensibility is apparent in his albums – a confluence of romantically moody and melodic indie rock, folk, and pop, all held together by reoccurring themes and subtext laden narratives. While Sea Wolf’s music is largely conceived by Church alone, he loops other players and co-producers into his recording process, most regularly the core of his live band, longtime collaborators Lisa Fendelander (keyboards), Scott Leahy (guitar), and Joey Ficken (drums).
