Lee Newton

Although she came from humble beginnings, Outlaw Country singer/songwriter Lee Newton’s love for music was always overflowing. Growing up in Canton, North Carolina, her parents played country classics like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline around the house. Lee’s father, a cab driver, taught her to play the guitar at age seven and they would sing together while riding around town. “My Daddy, who named me Brenda Lee after the amazing country singer, would always tell me one day you will be playing at the Grand Ole Opry and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a performer.”

At the age of eleven, Lee’s world came crashing down when her beloved father passed away. A constant inspiration to her, Lee turned to music to help grieve the devastating loss. In high school, she joined the chorus and was chosen to sing a solo with the band. “I sang Except on Monday by my idol Lorrie Morgan. I wanted to be just like her and I felt so special up on that stage.”

Heavily influenced by legendary musicians like Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lee’s personal sound is a mix between traditional Country and raspy Blues with an added Southern Rock flare. When Lee was 20 years old, she joined a couple of bands and taught herself to play the drums. She travelled to New York City and had the privilege of singing backup for Artimus Pyle, Leslie Hawkins and JoJo Billingsly – three original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

In October of 2020, Lee released her first single called “Daddy’s Little Girl.” To her surprise, she received a congratulatory video message from Lorrie Morgan herself, detailing how much she enjoyed the song. In addition, Lee won Vocalist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards (JMA) and is set release her upcoming EP, “Undamaged,” in 2021. A huge supporter of honoring the nation’s veterans, Lee performs at The Day of Courage each year and plans to continue performing for the military once the pandemic ends.

“I had a very hard childhood and lived through so much as a young adult,” Lee explains. “I know when I sing a song, I can make you feel the emotion in it. I pour everything that I have into that song and I just want to inspire people.

When she isn’t writing or recording music, Lee enjoys cooking Southern meals, painting canvases, taking photos and feeding the ducks with her son.
