About this concert
Singer Jonathan Karrant salutes the music of legendary lyricist Johnny Mercer, whose compositions made a significant impact on the Great American Songbook. Back by popular demand, Part 2 takes another look at some more selections of Mercer's works of music. With songs like "Autumn Leaves," "Moon River," "Skylark" and "Summer Wind,” Mercer was a top writer for Capital Records in the 1950s and '60s, and collaborated with several iconic composers. His songwriting was considered to be very prolific and provocative, creating word images through his lyrics, triggering thoughts and emotions. With a repertoire that spans classic jazz standards and contemporary interpretations, Karrant will bring a modern elegance to Mercer’s songs. Jonathan Karrant's album, "On and On," hit #4 on the Billboard Jazz charts and his album Live hit #2 on the iTunes Jazz Charts. He has recorded with such artists as Diane Schuur, Jane Monhiet and Houston Person. Karrant has received honors throughout the states including; the New York City Cabaret Jazz Honors, Best Singer for the Bravo California Awards and he was named one of the top 10 rising jazz vocalists by Downbeat.
