Upsilon Acrux Biography
Take the weirdest of Discipline-era King Crimson, multiply it by 100, and then remove any and all sense of apparent melody. You'll have something that might resemble Upsilon Acrux, who enjoy to call themselves "brutal prog". Also pattern-prog would be suitable name for the genre.
Hailing from Vista, CA.. this group has gone through well over 10 members and several line-ups, including everything from a 2-piece to over 5. Regardless of the amount of members, Upsilon Acrux are sure to create material that is entirely unconventional, consistently superb, intelligent, rhythmically labyrinthine, and largely alien even to the more experimental and outgoing bands around these days.
Classic Moog keyboards (often used in amusing ways), two drummers (one on the left channel, one on the right), and an all acoustic guitar/bass duo from another world make for an engaging progressive rock experience that manages to simultaneously make light of the extreme pretentiousness of math rock and make your head spin in circles from the pseudo-improvised madness.
