Jazz in-stores seem as rare as compassion at a MAGA rally, but leave it to Waterloo to open their stage to Austin’s finest players whenever a new record arrives. Carrying on the legacy of Austin’s boundary-defying Creative Opportunity Orchestra, of which they were both members, saxophonist Alex Coke and guitarist Carl Michel celebrate the release of Situation, the beautiful third album from their pandemic-born, genre-agnostic Sextet. The band plays, signs, and warms up for their record release show on Jan. 31 at the Rosette – itself a prelude to the group’s performance at the Chamber Music America conference in Houston this February. – Michael Toland
