Pamplemousse Biography
Pamplemousse formed in Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) in 2017 and released their first self-titled album on the French label "A Tant Rêver du Roi". Their sound is a powerful mix of Noise and Garage rock, tainted of dirty Blues.
Recorded and self-produced with a homemade artwork (on a purely DIY principle), their album was critically acclaimed both on a national scale (Rolling Stone, New Noise, Mowno, Le Drone, Abus Dangereux..) and internationally (Maximum R’n’R..).
This powerful trio from Reunion Island has been glowingly compared with masters of the 90s genre such as Shellac, Fugazi, Girls vs Boys or Chokebore as well as the Amphetamine Reptile or the Touch ‘n’ Go labels.
One can enjoy the urgency of listening to Pamplemousse’s music live, their thunderous sound emancipates itself from the Noise, Garage, Punk, Grunge or even the Stoner style. For their first gig in mainland France, the band supported Unsane (from NYC) in Paris then carried on with tours all around France and in Spain where they shared the stage with the cream of the underground (LANE, It It Anita, Lysistrata, Make-Overs...).
For the release of their second album “High Strung” on April 2019, on the same ‘A Tant Rêver du Roi’ label, Pamplemousse has still not started playing Séga nor Maloya. The band went to record on an analogical system at the Studio Black Box in Angers with Peter Deimel (Chokebore, Shellac, Cows..) which led to a Dantesque result.
In 2021, Pamplemousse changed their line up and it was now as a duo that the band locked themselves away for a year to compose their third album "Think Of It". The record was recorded in 2022 at the Black Box by Peter Deimel, and mixed by them in their studio in Reunion Island.
With this new formula, the duo continues to craft their style: nervous, savage with noisy punk gems like “Vicious Mind” or “Mexican Boy”, but Pamplemousse also widens its spectrum and leans towards indie rock like on the heady "One Millions Doors". Even when the band slows down the tempo, the tension is palpable and the eruption always close...
