About this concert
From 2004 until the onset of the pandemic, THE FIX ran a legendary late-night jazz session on Thursdays at The Moon Café. If you’ve ever been out in Northbridge, chances are you’ve stumbled upon this excellent, tight-knit, and spontaneous group doing their thing! Ricki Malet: trumpet Chris Foster: piano Nick Abbey: bass Peter Evans: drums Hankering to play together once more, this iteration of the quartet recently relaunched on The Ellington Jazz Club’s late-night stage. Their sold-out and celebrated March show marks the beginning of a new regular event on the last Friday of each month. These shows will be impromptu jazz at its finest: a great way to see off the work week or to wind down post-gig. Expect the core quartet to bring their high-energy, trademark take on hard bop, featuring tunes made popular by classic groups like Art Blakey, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Lee Morgan, as well as a few original compositions. Their long-running residency frequently featured drop-ins by national and international jazz luminaries (such as Aaron Choulai, Alex Norris, Troy Roberts, Linda May Han Oh, Sam Anning, Emiliano Sampaio, Carl Mackey, Brandon Allen, Mat Jodrell, and Mariel Bildsten, to name a few!), so don’t be surprised if you catch them collaborating on-the-fly with a heavy-hitting special guest or two, especially in the second set!
