BLACK POP Biography
Black Pop is a Colombian rising independent pop - rock band from Bogotá, Colombia, formed in 2008. The band's lineup has changed two times over its lifespan, with lead vocalist Jorge Iván, Dayro Sánchez (Lead Guitar, Programmation), and Cristian Buitrago (drums) being the consistent members. It currently consists of Jorge Iván, Dayro, Cristian and Juan Jo Piedrahita (bass).
The band's debut EP, Black Pop (2015), was produced by Juan Da Morales and Mastered by Howie Weinberg (Juanes, 30 Seconds To Mars, Smashing Pumpkins, and others).
Before the current group was established, the original five members, Jorge Iván (lead vocals), Dayro Sánchez (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Cristian Buitrago (drums), Johan Molina (bass) and Danny Duván Duarte (Keyboards) self-released a single called Castillo de Naipes (2011), then sponsored by Converse and released the Castillo de Naipe's Music Video on MTV Latin America, UK & Vh1 Latin América. After the single garnered a tepid response, Johan Molina & Danny Duarte officially left Black Pop in December 2011 and the band break up.
In November 2013 Black Pop opened a concert for REIK (México) in Medellín, Colombia, and made their first appearance on stage since March 2012 with Jorge Iván, Dayro Sánchez and Cristian Buitrago in the line up.
In February 2015 Black Pop released their debut EP, and create their own independent tour called "Rising Tour 2015 - 2016", supported and sponsored by Converse again, playing their music on seven cities from Colombia including Medellín, Tunja, Sogamoso, Armenia, Cali, Ibague and Bogotá, of course. Now they will play in Cartagena, Santa Marta, Barranquilla, Neiva and Villavicencio.
Black Pop are working on their first studio album. The first single for 2017, 'Quédate Conmigo' was released on February 17.
