Closterkeller Biography
Closterkeller is a leading representative of the dark rock music in Poland. Formed in 1988, the band has been active continuously and remains in excellent form, both creatively and live. They are a phenomenon of the Polish scene and a wonderful showcase for it. Each of their albums delights with its freshness and richness of new ideas. Their music is wildly eclectic, yet at the same time united by the Closterkeller's characteristic atmosphere and, above all, the personality of Anja Orthodox—leader, vocalist, and songwriter.
Her distinctive voice, vocal style, and extraordinary stylistic range make her an absolutely unique vocalist, even on a global scale. She moves equally well between delicate ballads and sharp rock vocals, fearlessly attacking the growls typical of metal, only to shift into classic soprano vocals a moment later. At the same time, her lyrics—poetry filled with evocative metaphors—enjoy her legions of loyal and devoted fans. Anja Orthodox's charisma wins her both supporters and foes, as she is unafraid to make bold and decisive statements, even on controversial topics.
As the band's leader, she demonstrates a remarkable intuition and talent for selecting exceptional musicians who are not only technically proficient but, above all, highly accomplished artists. This makes Closterkeller a collection of truly unique and powerful personalities. This can be heard on all of the band's subsequent albums, which mature with each release without losing their energy or power. Each one is a bouquet of the most beautiful musical flowers.
For Closterkeller, as they themselves say, the most important thing is art with a capital A, because for them, as artists, it is the greatest fulfillment and meaning of life. That's why they've been playing for so long, and why the band has existed for so long. All of this can be heard in their music.
