ERIC BELLINGER Biography
Eric Bellinger: The Journey of a Modern R&B Icon
Eric Aldwin Bellinger Jr. (born March 27, 1984) has firmly established himself as one of R&B’s most prolific and versatile artists. A Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, Eric’s career is a testament to the power of creativity, hard work, and reinvention. With his smooth vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and innovative approach to music, Eric has become a leading figure in contemporary R&B, blending traditional sounds with modern influences.
From Songwriter to Solo Star
Eric’s journey began in Los Angeles, California, where he grew up surrounded by music and ambition. The grandson of Jackson 5 songwriter Bobby Day, Eric’s musical lineage inspired him to pursue a career in the industry. Though he earned a football scholarship to the University of Southern California, Eric chose music over sports, joining R&B group AKNU before transitioning to songwriting.
As a member of The Writing Camp, Eric quickly rose to prominence, co-writing chart-topping singles such as Usher’s “Lemme See,” Chris Brown’s “New Flame,” and Justin Bieber’s “Right Here.” His work on Brown’s Grammy-winning album F.A.M.E. earned Eric his first Grammy Award, cementing his status as a sought-after songwriter. Despite his success behind the scenes, Eric was determined to step into the spotlight.
In 2014, Eric released his debut studio album, The Rebirth, a project that showcased his talents as both a vocalist and a songwriter. The album’s lead single, “I Don’t Want Her,” became an international hit, reaching #22 on the digital charts and solidifying Eric’s place as an artist in his own right.
A Legacy of Innovation
Eric’s music career is marked by constant evolution and boundary-pushing. From the Eric B for President series, which introduced acoustic and experimental elements to his sound, to New Light (2021), which earned him his first Grammy nomination as an artist, Eric has continually expanded the scope of R&B. His collaborative spirit has led to work with legends like Usher and Chris Brown, as well as emerging stars, blending genres and styles to create music that resonates globally.
In 2024, Eric released It’ll All Make Sense Later, a transformative album recorded in Cape Town, South Africa. Inspired by the continent’s vibrant sounds and rhythms, the project features collaborations with Burna Boy, Gyakie, Oxlade, and other African stars. The album’s fusion of R&B, Pop, Afrobeat, and Amapiano reflects Eric’s ability to bridge cultures and connect with fans worldwide.
The Around the World Tour
Eric’s latest project comes to life on stage with The Around the World Tour. Beginning January 31, 2025, this North American tour brings Eric’s signature energy and storytelling to major cities across the U.S., including a homecoming show in Los Angeles. The tour features music from It’ll All Make Sense Later alongside fan favorites, offering an unforgettable live experience.
More Than Music
Beyond the studio and stage, Eric is a proud husband and father who embraces personal growth and mindfulness. His dedication to yoga and meditation has informed his creative process, helping him navigate the demands of a dynamic career. Eric’s focus on balance and intention shines through in his music, inspiring fans to live authentically and embrace their journeys.
Looking Ahead
With a career spanning over a decade, Eric continues to raise the bar for independent R&B artists. From his Grammy-winning songwriting to his groundbreaking solo projects, he remains a trailblazer in the industry. As Eric often says, “It’ll all make sense later.” With each new chapter, he proves that the best is yet to come.
