Class Biography
1) Mihaela Cernea, Mihaela Florea, Vlad Cernea and Florin Cojocaru formed, in 1994, the Romanian group Class. The name of the band was chosen from a list of several names that sounded good in both Romanian and English. Class was chosen because, aside from the aforementioned criterion, it could also represent a carefully studied, somewhat classy dance music.
In 1996, at the Golden Stag festival, they release "A, dui, doina", their first hit, rapidly climbing its way up in the charts. To the end of the year their debut album, "Răspuns" (Answer), is released. The group starts a national tour in 1997 and keeps performing throughout the country up until 1999, while working on their next release.
In summer 1999 the follow-up to "Răspuns" is released, "Aproape de tine" (Close to You), which is quickly followed by "Color" and "Hipnotizat" (Hypnotized).
In 2001, founding member Mihaela Florea leaves the group and the country, trying to focus on a solo career. Her place in the band is taken by Anca Badiu shortly after, in february 2002, and later that year the new album "Într-o zi" (Someday) is released, showcasing a reinvented Class sporting a fresh new sound. The single "Luna mi-a zâmbit" (The Moon Smiled at Me) holds the record for the longest standing #1 in the Romanian Top 100 - 7 weeks.
In 2004 "Pentru dragoste" (For Love) is released, enjoying moderate success and promotion.
2006 finds Class parting ways with Anca Badiu, who chose to focus on her solo career as well as her other projects.
