Calico Sky Biography
TWIN SYNTH-POP BAND, INFLUENCED BY L.A.’S EMERGING SYNTHWAVE SCENE
Based in Los Angeles, Calico Sky was formed by Jonathan and Joel Nesvadba, twin brothers from Austin, Texas.
Classically trained from a young age, the brothers started violin lessons at 3 and were educated at a boys choir school in Texas. They didn’t play in bands until high school when they taught themselves guitar and bass, inspired after a friend introduced them to the pop genius of the Beatles.
The twins have collaborated with several Austin indie bands, such as …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, and PT Banks, as well as worked with the artist, Moby. They found their way to Los Angeles after Joel earned a scholarship to study medieval and renaissance music; Jon followed two years later to work as a recording engineer.
Calico Sky was officially created after Moby invited his friends and colleagues to produce unique covers of his song, Almost Home. The brothers were already experimenting with hardware synthesizers in their home studio in Echo Park, L.A. Inspired by David Bowie's Labryinth, they began developing a sound evoking '80s nostalgia, highlighted by Beatlesque vocal harmonies.
Calico Sky will be releasing their first single, the arson-inspiring disco ballad, “Burn Down the Roxy”, later this year.
