About this concert
Sometimes there seems to be more war than peace in the world. Austrian-British soprano Anna Prohaska explores this tragic fact. Twenty-five songs about war, soldiers, the executed and the front; a deeply moving concert. At the recommendation of Daniel Barenboim, Prohaska joined the soloist ensemble of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden at the young age of 23. Since then, she has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Wigmore Hall and Philharmonie de Paris, among other venues. From Beethoven to Wolfgang Rihm, and from Die Trommel gerühret to Untergang. Loved are the songs of Schubert, Schumann and Mahler. There is also plenty of repertoire that centres on the First World War. In addition, Rachmaninoff and two war songs by Kurt Weill from his later years in America are performed. Anna Prohaska infuses the songs with her warm, lyrical soprano, delivering a powerful emotional impact.
