DIAMOND DOVES Biography

Diamond Doves are excited to announce that their debut full length ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ will be available on January 31st. In celebration of the release, the band will embark on a short Northeastern tour starting that night at Manhattan’s Bowery Electric, followed by 2/1 at The Columbus Theater in Providence and 2/2 at Great Scott in Boston. Written, recorded and produced by the band themselves over the last year and a half, Diamond Doves' debut full-length, "Eat Your Heart Out" is a bold declaration of creative independence for a group of life-long friends who spent years playing in Elvis Perkins in Dearland and collaborating with the likes of My Morning Jacket and Bon Iver. Sonically more daring then their previous projects, and more heart-on-your-sleeve than your typical indie-rock, "Eat Your Heart Out" is an emotive reflection on love, struggle and change set to a widescreen production style and lush, churning arrangements. Clearly the product of deep collaboration, "Eat Your Heart Out" finds this group of talented multi-instrumentalists all contributing compositions and trading instruments as often as lead vocal duties. The sound of Diamond Doves is equally informed by the muted orchestral-rock leanings of Talk Talk, as it is the stadium grandeur of big rock acts like My Morning Jacket; with a focus on vocal harmonies that seems to bridge the gap between the looseness of The Band and the lushness of the Beach Boys. But their sound leans toward the future; at times reminiscent of the electro-acoustic experiments of bands like Radiohead and Liars. While their folk-rock background resonates throughout, Diamond Doves lean more toward the rhythmic and production styles of genre-benders like Beck, Outkast and Kanye West. Ultimately, with "Eat Your Heart Out", Diamond Doves have created their own world where they play and sing, in harmony, by their own rules. "Eat Your Heart Out" features a wide variety of guests including Elvis Perkins on Harmonica and vocals and a legendary downtown horn section including Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob, Lounge LIzards, Antony and The Johnsons) Curtis Fowlkes (Lounge Lizards, Jazz Passengers) and Marcus Rojas. Additional trumpet was provided by Mike Irwin (TV on the Radio, The Walkmen, The Low Anthem). Facts: Apart from years performing and recording with critically acclaimed folk-rock group Elvis Perkins in Dearland the three members of Diamond Doves have each carved out unique musical paths for themselves. As a horn section the three have playing on numerous occasions with My Morning Jacket including NYE 2006 at the Fillmore in San Francisco and the subsequent tour as well as at Madison Square Garden in winter of 2011. As a horn section they have also performed with Bon Iver, Dr. Dog, Felice Brothers, Cold War Kids, Okkervil River and many others. On top of releasing solo material as THUNDERCLAP, Nick Kinsey is an in-demand session drummer in New York City having recorded and performed with A.C. Newman, A.A. Bondy, Marco Benevento, the Felice Brothers and many others. Wyndham Boylan-Garnett records and performs solo as simply WYNDHAM and has toured playing in Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Brigham Brough records and performs as Wash Hollow as well as owning & operating a recording studio where he has engineered for Jocie Adams (The Low Anthem), and Deer Tick among others.
