About this concert
The turbulent life of a musical talent in music and language Even though Claude Debussy (1862-1918) did not come from a musical family, from an early age it was evident that he was an extraordinary musical talent. His music reviews, written under the alias Monsieur Croche, were feared, while in his letters he revealed a keen wit, eloquence, and candour. His love life was marked by both fatal relationships and secret affairs. During the concert, the musicians recite texts by Debussy that provide a glimpse into his recalcitrant and turbulent life. Debussy’s extreme intelligence and eccentric character are reflected in his compositions, which continue to exert their influence to this day. He had a love-hate relationship with the music of Wagner and Fauré, was lyrical about old masters such as Di Lasso and Palestrina, and had a great influence on Ravel.
