About this concert
Bach’s inimitable sense of musical theatre The very name of Easter whispers Bach. To uphold this beautiful tradition, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra together with Cappella Amsterdam perform the St John Passion under the baton of conductor Daniel Reuss. The emotional depth of the arias is brought to life by great vocal soloists, such as Norwegian soprano Berit Notbakken and British baritone Peter Harvey. With captivating narration, evangelist Werner Güra tells the inspiring story of the Messiah. The St John Passion is also referred to as ‘Bach’s only opera’ because of its dramatic scenes and Bach’s inimitable sense of musical theatricality. The chilling opening chorus Herr, unser Herrscher sets the tone right away.
