Modern Time Machines Biography
The haunting, bittersweet melodies of Los Angeles-based shoegazers Modern Time Machines have been described as a "noisy, romantic hurricane for those who like their rock with intricate layers" (Buzzbands LA).
After gaining momentum from their earliest local shows and SXSW touring, MTM received strong radio support from L.A.'s KROQ 106FM, and were invited to perform on Adult Swim's cult hit TV show, The Eric Andre Show, graced by the string arrangements of Oscar-shortlisted film composer Chanda Dancy.
Hailied as "good-feeling indie rockers" by A.V. Club, the band can be heard alongside They Might Be Giants in the award-winning 2020 indie film "Dramarama", and on numerous films on Hulu and Netflix.
In July 2024, Deadline.com premiered MTM's new single + music video "Ghost Signs (Sleight of Hand)", a bittersweet time travel tale of LA's gentrifcation and changes.
Described by NBC LA as a "dreamy song [that] is evocative and upliftingly esoteric, fitting the SoCal-flavored mood of this memory lane adventure", the accompanying music video (directed by Modern Time Machines frontman Ben Golomb) takes viewers on a Los Angeles time warp journey.
Old buildings, shuttered music venues, and destroyed signs all return to life, courtesy of L.A. Kitsch King. Charles Phoenix, who plays a time machine equipment salesman in the video.
An upcoming Modern Time Machines song collaboration with the late Grammy-winning songwriting legend Allee Willis (Earth Wind & Fire, Pet Shop Boys) is coming soon.
