THE HONEYRUNNERS Biography

“Let it burn. It’s the ashes that I admire.” A telling lyric from the title track of The Honeyrunners’ new album, Everything Is On Fire, slated for release on March 26, 2021 via Canadian roots label, Gypsy Soul Records. The band’s new body of work aims to disrobe our culture of apathy – a sentiment that everything is always on fire, with nothing to do but watch. The album was born of late nights and long drives; a tapestry of rhythm and melody, underpinned with desperate optimism and a stark reminder of why your presence is needed in times like these.

The Honeyrunners are a Northern take on Southern Roots and Americana – hot-blooded and rife with the poetry of heartache. Their energy is contagious on stage and on record. It is a discography that suits fans of bands like Bahamas, Alabama Shakes, Elle King, Arkells, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Leon Bridges.

The four-piece Toronto group (toting twelve members for larger shows) is fronted by Ottawa-born singer/songwriter Dan Dwoskin (keys, lead vocals) and Canadian-Peruvian audio-engineer/producer, Guillermo Subauste (bass, vocals). Newer additions to the lineup include Armenian-Canadian guitarist, Haig Beylerian (electric and acoustic guitar, vocals) and Toronto-born drummer and filmmaker, Lewis Spring (drums, percussion, vocals).

Everything Is On Fire is, at its heart, a collaboration. The songs play host to a slew of Canadian guest talent: Carleigh Aikins (Bahamas, Paper Bird), Micah Barnes, Marcus Bucci, Meg Contini (The O’Pears, Dwayne Gretzky), Tom Ionescu (Jane’s Party), Bruce Mackinnon, Samantha Martin, Tom Moffett (Arkells, Bedouin Soundclash), Andrew Moljgun, and Champagne James Robertson (Lindi Ortega, Lydia Persaud). The album is a photograph of a band finessing the boundaries of its own unique sound – a new brand of Canadian Alternative.

The Honeyrunners have been lucky to share stages with many friends and mentors, including The Sadies, The Trews, Philip Sayce, Nick Waterhouse, King Khan, U.S.S., The Beaches, The Balconies, Skye Wallace and more.
