Kamma Biography

Bold, joyful and ever-curious, DJ and producer Kamma's creative world is fueled by her sharp intuition and a solid musical foundation. She draws inspiration from her roots as an Amsterdam native, her Chinese-Indonesian heritage and a deep familial connection with club culture. Kamma’s parents were professional DJs in the Dutch capital's club circuit in the 80s and 90s, and she grew up amongst their 30,000 jazz, funk, disco and house record collection. Kamma's musical education continued at the iconic Trouw, where DJs mixed straightforward house and techno with rarer cuts from virtually every genre. These influences formed the blueprint for the experimentation Kamma explores in her own sets, moving from warm uplifting house into trippy, percussive techno and landing on all manner of euphoric sounds along the way.

Ever loyal to her Eastside roots, Kamma co-created Amsterdam's first high fidelity listening bar Doka, alongside frequent collaborator Masalo. The duo also runs the Brighter Days event and mix series, which celebrates an open-minded dance floor approach and platforms the local community as well as legendary guests from further afield. In 2023 Kamma & Masalo released a Brighter Days compilation on Rush Hour, featuring obscurities, previously unreleased music from upcoming talent, as well as their own K&M edits.

Kamma has leant her sensitivity and keen ear to solo productions too, a natural progression from practising piano and jamming on a Casio synthesiser as a child. Her debut single, ‘Snow In April’, which featured on Antal’s Rainbow Disco Club compilation, weaves abstracted electronics and ambient through transfixing loops of downtempo synths. Now Kamma’s productions are changing gears – with club-focused tracks on the horizon in 2024 and 2025. Her performances are set to follow suit, leaning more heavily into an electronic aesthetic whilst remaining true to her rock solid artistic foundation.
