About this concert
Performing Live: HOUSE OF HARM STILL RUINS VAGUE LANES With DJs: Omar Josh Yule House of Harm is a night owl's call back to the birth of new wave. Dark, seedy, intense and also frenetic, emotional and upbeat. One second you're brooding in the back of the bar, furious at whoever's scorned you. The next, you're shaking and twisting your cares away under the glittering lights of the dancefloor. Their new album, Playground, builds and expands upon the three-piece's enthralling shadow-pop sound, a mix of midnight atmospherics, 90s era jangle pop, and contagious synth drenched hooks. Still Ruins are an Oakland trio who make dark wave daydream music. Their sound uses shimmery synths to cut through the fog of fuzzed-out bass lines and vocals, and creates an effective blend of post-punk and new wave. Engaging melodies, seamless rhythms, and poignant lyrical narratives engage the listener to feel the music, not just hear it. Vague Lanes: Driven by a gritty drum machine attack somewhat akin to Godflesh this duo juxtapose round melodic 6 string bass, coldwave synth swathes and driving post-punk 4 string bass work. Lyrically and vocally the band sheds abstract light on darker, more melancholic, subjects as dementia, alcoholism, depression, and the controversies surrounding Catholicism. San Francisco scenemaker DJ Omar of Popscene fame has been keeping San Francisco on its dancing feet for the past decade. A DJ with an eclectic array of musical tastes and cultures, there's no predicting what comes next - anything from disco to electro to goth. DJ Omar will be playing B2B with Cruel Summer guitarist Josh Yule before, between and after the bands! synthpop. post-punk. darkwave. doors @ 7pm; show @ 7:30pm. all ages. $15 advance; $20 day of show. Vague Lanes Biography

Vague Lanes is a darkwave duo from the San Francisco Bay Area island city of Alameda with a gothic disposition. The band consists of Bay Area music scene veterans Mike Cadoo (Gridlock, Bitcrush) and Badger McInnes (Here We Burn, After the Apex). They favor driving drum machines and propulsive synth ornamentation as a backbone for their dual bass guitar amalgam. Vague Lanes' classic post-punk ideology, while adding modern detail, results in a dark, sometimes forked tongue underbelly, which contrasts with light melodicism to create Vague Lane’s nostalgic take on modern post-punk.
