Band Capricio Biography
‘Capricio’, an Italian word which means a lively piece of music; short & free form. Band capricio is India’s first regional Telugu band started in 2016, the time while the world was busy in making mashups, cover songs; they had started blending melodies of Ilayaraja garu & Rehman garu in an enclosed space.
Sai Teja, the Manager of Band Capricio, also the percussionist, taking us to their world, giving a sneak-peek of their lives.
For us, Capricio is a fascinating journey which has transformed our lives to achieve our goals. It’s all started with myself (percussions) & Eknath who stood as the pillars of Capricio.
I started learning percussions since his 7, by the time he is 13, I started playing tabla as well. This enthusiasm towards music led me to Limca book of records, also, I’m a record holder for playing 17 instruments, most no. of percussions in 50 minutes.
During our Engineering, I used to organize many events. It made me socialize with a lot of people, co-musicians especially. Likely I met Kiran (Lead Vocalist) in 2015 at Madras.
Kiran has some magic in his voice. Though his steps to music have started at his young age, he had to discontinue due to his studies. To fill that emptiness in his life without music he continued again from B.Tech. His life has stretched its arms to the world of music, in that Engineering is just a degree. Also, he’s a semifinalist for paduthateeyaga, the stage which made Kiran & Ganesh has met.
All together used to do jams in an enclosed space. Teja always wanted to start a band of his own. That ardor & thirst to start a band made him resign his job in an IT company. (Everyone is so passionate about music, they agreed to it. Our first video got released on Nov 2016.) Even their jamming videos have gone viral. Using their contacts, they started gathering musicians. Earlier we had Joel on the keys. Together used to perform shows at different places like stone waters, BIET, Moonshine project of course. Joel was good for Bollywood songs but our goal is to bring Telugu music into Hyderabad nightlife.
Joel left the band in around Feb 2017. Kiran & I were in search of a new keyboard player for the band. I was also a part of ISAI band so do Sam (Bass guitarist). Through Sam, we came to know about Shravan.
By the time Sam was not a part of our band yet he was good support for us. Shravan was interested in programming as a composer. During his graduation, I gave him a call to know his interests. Surprisingly, he made a visit at once. The Zest about music, never let him turn back. While doing a jam video with him, our people got the clarity that he’s the perfect one for Capricio.
We used to do videos for Chitraastra & some shows also. People started liking our performances. Especially, Ganesh & Kiran’s voice combination was epic. Ganesh wanted to form a band of his own. The best thing about us, we never had any kind egos and we always respect each other’s decisions.
When Ganesh left, we again needed one more person to the band. Prior to that, we didn’t have a full-time guitarist. As Teja & Shravan all these knew Sam well, he joined us. Sam, a guy whose perception is unique. He held guitar at the age 15, took two years to collaborate with musicians. He participated at the battle of bands with desert edge & encountered 777. Also, Sam & I, played together at ISAI band. Sam, he did not join our band, he just came back to the family.
We’re getting more no.of events and our contacts been increasing. Kiran struggled a lot to give his best. He was the only singer in the band. From August, we started facing fan requests like people expecting us to sing more no. of songs, etc. Kiran managed to keep up to the expectations of the clients. We thought of having one more singer to the band which helps us to fulfill fan requests & better output from us.
