About Bird Cage Theatre
Blending their acoustic roots with modern production and a live band sound. Bird Cage Theatre create songs which are both anthemic, yet intimate. Lifelong friends Chris Molloy (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Marc Kean (lead guitar) shared a deep passion for music from an early age. Growing up in Newmains, North Lanarkshire, they soaked up a diverse range of musical
influences, which they drew upon to create their own unique sound. In 2021, Chris caught the attention of drummer Simon Usher with his solo material, leading to a meeting in an Edinburgh coffee shop where they bonded over their shared love for acoustic music. This encounter sparked a shared vision of forming a band to bring Chris’s heartfelt home recordings to life, with Marc joining as the lead guitarist, later growing their vision into a 5-piece with Stephen Dennis (piano) and Craig Russell (bass).
In October 2022, the band ventured into a studio in Paisley to record their first four singles under the guidance of Glasgow
producer Ross Hamilton.
Championed by the popular ‘Have a Word’ Podcast, Bird Cage Theatre's melodic acoustic rock has grabbed the attention of multiple radio outlets, including BBC Radio Scotland's Iain Anderson. Alongside radio success, the band has received recognition from traditional news outlets, named Artist of the Week in The Scotsman.
