Mezanmi Biography
Mezanmi (pronounced 'mes amis') is a solo project from artist and songwriter Fran O’Hanlon (formerly AJIMAL).
Hailing from Newcastle, now based in London, Mezanmi marks a new era for O’Hanlon. Working with double Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Guy Massey, he released first single, 'To You, My Friends' at the end of 2023, drawing on influences from folk, electronic and contemporary classical music. Mezanmi is a Haitian Creole word used as an exclamation, often to express surprise, shock or joy.
Mezanmi’s deeply personal writing explores a fascination with our society's collective obsession with forward motion and our failure to perceive that this cannot continue indefinitely. O'Hanlon draws upon his unique experience working as a doctor within the NHS.
Previously under the moniker AJIMAL, O’Hanlon was one of the winners of the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition in 2020. Having released two albums as AJIMAL (As It Grows Dark / Light in 2020 and Childhood in 2015), he received critical acclaim and amassed over four million streams, with national and international radio support and high-profile syncs in Film and TV, including the opening credits of Mae Martin’s Netflix series, 'Feel Good'.
O’Hanlon has performed extensively in the UK and Europe, including live dates supporting Van Morrison, Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler, Eydís Evensen, Sandrayati, Kathryn Joseph, Hannah Georgas and Lucy Rose.
