Grooblen Biography
Channeling experimental psychedelic cabaret dreampunk into her performance alter-ego, Grooblen, San Francisco's Ellie Stokes’ healing work braids themes that are reflective, surreal, pensive, and whimsical. Inspired by musical artists Fiona Apple, Frank Zappa, Jeff Buckley, and Genesis, critics have described Grooblen as "a playful and genre-diverse style of art rock, pulling from psychedelic cabaret arrangements, jazz pop, and surreal rock stylings.”(Under the Radar Mag)
Grooblen released their sophomore album, ‘A Wormhole is a Freeway to the Stars’ in June 2023 which Psychedelic Scene describes as" worth listening to for anyone wondering what psychedelic-cabaret-dream-pop-punk sounds like because there’s no better place to start than with the genre’s originator", and White Crate SF describes as “Dipping into humming lows and swelling into ecstatic highs, that (Ellie's) voice commands the alien spaceship on this ride through the cosmos.” From a solo project to eclectic 5-piece band with Ellie Stokes (vocals, guitar, keys), Sean Aaron (drums), Alejandro Lara-Agraz (bass), Spencer Lay (guitar), and Eva Gogas (vocals), Grooblen has opened for artists such as TEKE::TEKE, Enjambre, Jordana, Annabelle Chairlegs, Michelle Blades, Acid Tongue, and Blvck Hippie, and has new funk and shoegaze drenched psychedelic music on the way in March 2024.
