About this concert
ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC featuring THE PINKERTON RAID on the deck at the Irving Theater Monday June 17 (and every Monday night) 7:00p to 10:00p FREE All Ages [LOCAL MUSICIANS] [ORIGINAL MUSIC] [PLAY OR LISTEN] Acoustic Open Mic is an open stage featuring local and regional artists held every Monday during the Summer on the deck at the Irving Theater and inside the Irving Theater all Winter long or as weather may not permit us to be outside. The format is original acoustic music. Performers are allowed about 10 minute or 3-4 songs to perform depending on the number of musicians wishing to perform. There is no fee. Come enjoy original music from local and regional musicians. On occasion we feature traveling musicians. This week we feature North Carolina-based Folk band The Pinkerton Raid with a set at about 8:00p. ABOUT THE PINKERTON RAID Go see a live show with The Pinkerton Raid, and songwriter Jesse James DeConto might share stories about the history and architecture of his native New England, or forest legends from the Nordic region, or Broadway-showtunes-turned-football-fight-songs from Liverpool. It’s all quite beatnik and granola, steeped in the mysticism of STAR WARS and Celtic lore, the existentialism of Kerouac, the naturalism of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Standing Rock and Laurel Canyon, and the liberation politics of Woody Guthrie, Karl Marx and Black Lives Matter. There is a fair number of songs about trees. “A fine blend of Beatles-esque dreamy folk,” says AMERICANA HIGHWAYS. The band has opened for Illiterate Light, The Ballroom Thieves, TopHouse, Eliot Bronson, Driftwood, The Collection and Noah Gundersen. They’ve slotted at festivals like Shakori Hills, Albino Skunk, Beacon Bonfire and AVL Fest with artists such as River Whyless, Sunny War, Watchhouse, Amythyst Kiah and Tall Heights.

The Pinkerton Raid Biography

The Pinkerton Raid’s Jesse James DeConto hails from New England, with dad’s guitar and mom’s radio tuned to Soulsville, The Village, Liverpool and Laurel Canyon, now mining foothills-folk in Durham, N.C., for songs AMERICANA-UK calls “anthemic.” With the band’s latest release of winter-themed cover songs, the band takes on those classic mellow gold sounds directly, framing their sonic journey with a pop-noir version of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here" on one end and a driving, drum-circle and brass-polished rendition of folk-rock descendants Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal" on the other. “Radiant,” says AMERICAN SONGWRITER. The band has opened for Illiterate Light, The Ballroom Thieves, TopHouse, The Collection and Noah Gundersen. They’ve slotted at Daytrotter and at festivals like Shakori Hills, Albino Skunk, H St., Beacon Bonfire and AVL Fest with artists such as River Whyless, Sunny War, Watchhouse and The Bones of JR Jones. “A sound for dreamers around a campfire,” says GHETTOBLASTER.
