About this concert
An eminent explorer of contemporary jazz, deeply imbued with traditional Armenian music, pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan brings A Bird of a Thousand Voices to flight , an ambitious new work conceived from an initiatory tale. A precocious piano virtuoso, revealed in his adolescence, Tigran Hamasyan quickly rose to the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene. Extremely creative, he cultivates an innovative and evolving musical language, nourished in particular by the traditional repertoire of his native Armenia. Often compared to Keith Jarrett for his unusual performances, he reaches high levels of intensity on stage. In fervent dialogue with three other musicians and a singer with an angelic voice (Areni Agbabian), he deploys here a new piece, A Bird of a Thousand Voices , inspired by an ancient Armenian tale conveying a universal call to spiritual awakening.

Great show, the band was very tight and the venue ( boulder theater was really nice . one small criticism- in the sections where tigran and the bass were plying heavy bass lines together it sounds great. when tigran was playing more melodically it was a little hard to hear his right hand playing - not sure if this was an EQ thing or they needed a second mic for the mid and high range of the piano but it was small issue and did not dampen my enjoyment of the show
