Every Other Weekend Band Biography
You know how we’re all anxious, struggling to make meaningful connections with people and take life way too seriously?
Shall we just put a record on? Or better still, shall we get into a room and play some songs together, and then maybe play them to some other people on an actual stage?
That’s the philosophy behind Every Other Weekend, a new project spearheaded by Chris Bull, former singer and guitarist from 2010s Manchester rockers, City Reign.
The project was born from the ashes of his former band, who parted ways in 2016 after the release of the second album, Dasein. Having spent 6 years building their following, gaining critical acclaim and support from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Terry Christian, the realities of being a self-funded, self-managed and entirely independent band eventually wore the group down, who went on indefinite hiatus
This hiatus coincided with a time of great personal upheaval for Bull, having endured the loss of his father, followed swiftly by the end of a short-lived marriage. Music was a refuge, a way to process the upheaval. He revamped to London, moving back in with his mum, and his spare evenings and weekends in her garden shed, writing and recording what would become Every Other Weekend’s debut album.
The writing and recording began in 2018, but with other life priorities it lay on the back burner for several years, finally being revisited in the winter of 2023/24.
The first live show also came from the ashes of City Reign. The band had been planning a special reunion show to coincide with a brief return to the UK by lead guitarist Mike Grice, who now resides in New Zealand with his wife and daughter. Sadly, health issues have prevented Mike from making the trip back this summer. Rather than cancel the event, Bull decided to call on some favours and give an airing to his ‘solo’ project, Every Other Weekend.
The night has only just been announced and tickets are already selling. The show is set to be a special night.
