Tom Croysdill Biography

Tom Croysdill first picked up the guitar at the age of 7 and was hooked instantly. An early inspiration was the music of Skiffle artist Lonnie Donegan who had recently passed. Over the years this inspiration developed through to The Beatles, Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac.

Tom first found Blues music as a teenager and quickly fell in love with the Blues. Tom delved deep into the Blues for many years, primarily listening to B.B. King, Elmore James, Chris Barber and Robert Johnson. Through Blues music Tom was able to develop his guitar playing and improvisation, attempting to play along with guitar solos from the greats. This lead Tom to the music of Eric Clapton, who remains his biggest influence.

Tom studied music at the London Centre of Contemporary Music for 3 years to further his musicianship and continue developing his career. In 2016 Tom released his debut EP ‘This Way Up’, a collection of 4 original songs, which referred to 4 different styles of Blues-based music. During his studies, composition (specifically for film) became of great interest, and for a time outweighed his interest in guitar music. After further studies of composition and the inspiration of John Williams’ music, Tom composed music for several short films including ‘Stranded’ directed by Gino Vitolo, and also composed a piece for the Hitchin Symphony Orchestra to mark the centenary of the end of World War One in 2018.

Shortly after, Tom’s love of guitar was re-engaged, but this time with a keen interest in pop music, and the idea of trying to cohesively combine that with Blues, Folk, Soul and other genres. Tom’s return to songwriting was now backed by a more developed musicianship, and a drive to set the bar higher with each new song. Recent inspiration has been the music of Norah Jones, John Mayer, Maggie Rogers and James Bay.

With recent support from BBC Introducing, who described Tom’s music as "really different and exciting”, DJ Kerrie Cosh went on to say “that level of musicality, and passion, and energy for that type of music really comes through" and his music "features a lot of craftsmanship".
