Terror Bird Biography

Born in British Columbia to her young parents, Terror Bird aka Nikki Nevver is a prolific songwriter who is best known for her heavy participation in lofi self recorded music and coining of the term "bedroom pop". Terror Bird's music is emotional catharsis paired with lyrical authenticity, poetry and dry wit.

As a teen in Vancouver, Nikki played experimental, noise and garage rock meets punk music. Terror Bird first started writing songs at age 16. At age 20 she moved to Montreal and began writing songs inspired by Leonard Cohen, Bowie, 80s pop and indie folk artists on her roommate's piano and acoustic guitar. Her Montreal roommate said he couldn't use his instruments after because her spirit had gone into the instruments. During this time, Nikki worked at a depressing call center, one of the only English speaking jobs available in the city and went out dancing in queer clubs relentlessly trying to escape memories of her past boyfriend and chaotic childhood.

Terror Bird is best known for her debut lo-fi self recorded cassette, "Sociopaths are Glam" including covers of Bronski Beat and Jesus and Mary Chain and the dark synth bedroom pop album "All This Time." (Night School Recs) as well as her recent track with Odonis Odonis, “Brilliant Things” and music videos by fellow artist, Sally Dige.

Singles like Cemeteries, and Shadows in the Halls from the Rough Trade compilation including Fever Ray, Zola Jesus, Cold Cave, and Grimes) are fan favourites.

In recent years, Nikki Nevver has teamed up with producers Jason Corbett (ACTORS) and Jordan Koop, who was mentored by The Pixies/Nirvana/PJ Harvey/Breeders producer Steve Albini to achieve a clearer sound on her new albums and future singles.

Terror Bird live once featured Nikki's ex-husband Jeremiah as well as Daniel Pitout of Orville Peck on keyboards but is now a cast of rotating Vancouver female friends.

Nikki Nevver has played shows with TR/ST, Xiu Xiu, The Human League, Future Islands and more. They have toured with Molly Nilsson (SE), Die Selektion (DE), Silent Star (UK), Videotraum (DE), Apostille (UK), M!R!M (IT) and Patriarchy (LA).

Other notable projects: Subterranean Lovers, Automatic Fancy, Modern Creatures, Terror Bird + Cyan Kid, Odonis Odonis + Terror Bird. Nikki has worked on music with Sally Dige, Maya Postepski of TR/ST and Austra and co-written songs with Cyan Kid and Easter (DE).

Terror Bird’s album featuring the Subterranean Lovers band, Deathless, Wild and Free came out late 2023 + collaboration with Silent Star, The Cold Now came out in 2024.

Terror Bird has plans to tour Europe this August and September 2024 (including a German show with post punk 80s faves, The Chameleons) with a four piece all female band playing synth, guitars, and electronic drums and backing tracks produced by Jason Corbett of Jackknife Sound, Actors and Leathers.

In 2024, Terror Bird is working on music videos and new versions of select Terror Bird songs produced by Jason Corbett.
