About this concert
Eyehategod (also abbreviated and referred to as EHG) is an American sludge metal band from New Orleans, who formed in 1988.[1] They have become one of the better known bands to emerge from the NOLA metal scene . Their core lineup has remained consistent since the band's inception, with the exception of the bassist (the role of which has been filled by several musicians over the years), until the death of drummer Joey LaCaze in 2013. As of 2021, the band has released six studio albums. Eyehategod have noted Melvins, The Obsessed, Discharge, Black Flag, Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost as key influences to their sound. Heavy, detuned, and blues guitar riffs dominate the band's discography. They are combined with walls of feedback, and tortured vocals, with lyrical themes centered around substance abuse, to create a harsh mood. Goatwhore was formed by guitarist/backing vocalist Sammy 'Pierre' Duet, who was previously the lead guitarist for Louisiana sludge metal band Acid Bath . The band's origins can date back to 1991 with Sammy and drummer Zak Nolan. The band was at the time called "Killgore" with Duet on lead guitar and vocals and Zak Nolan on drums. Killgore would release a number of demos up until 1997 when they changed their name to Goatwhore, after Acid Bath dissolved due to the death of bassist Audie Pitre . Solent Green lead vocalist Louis Benjamin Falgoust II, rhythm guitarist Ben Stout and bassist Pat Bruders completed the lineup, which debuted with the demo Serenades to the Tides of Blood; Goatwhore's official debut LP, The Eclipse of Ages into Black followed in early 2000. Funeral Dirge for the Rotting Sun appeared in 2003 before the band jumped to Metal Blade for the fall release of 2006's A Haunting Curse.

Eyehategod Biography

American sludge band from Louisiana who are known for their dark, sludgy riffs combined with equally dark lyrics. Like many sludge metal bands, Eyehategod draw on both stoner/doom influences as well as hardcore punk.

Eyehategod have noted Melvins, Black Flag, and Black Sabbath as key influences to their sound. This, combined with heavy, detuned, and bluesy riffs dominate the band's sound. They are combined with walls of feedback and distinctive tortured vocals to create a truly misanthropic vibe.

While Jimmy Bower was busy playing drums for Down, rather than sit on their laurels, the other 4 members of Eyehategod formed a side-project called Outlaw Order (abbreviated to OO%). The band released a limited edition 7" EP in 2003 called Legalize Crime, which has since been rereleased on CD with a bonus live track and is available through Eyehategod's webstore. The criminal theme is apparently because at the time of formation, all 5 of the members were on probation, and have consistently been in trouble with the law. Marc Shultz is currently serving a prison sentence and so has been replaced by Justin Grisoli. The band have recorded their 13 track debut full-length and will release it sometime soon, they are "waiting for a label worth a fuck".
