About this concert
Vera Van Heeringen and Brooks Williams present ?Song Roots,? a night of songs, stories and masterful guitar playing. Audiences will be treated to duets as well as solos in this variation of the ?songwriter in the round? sessions made famous in Nashville in the early years of Folk/Americana. Brooks Williams, originally from the USA, is creating new music from the confluence of country, blues and folk. New routes from old roots. His songs are rich narratives about adventurers, motorcyclists, lovers, losers and ne?er-do-wells, all set to walking bass lines, stinging lead lines and flying chords. His latest solo recording, ?Diamond,? released in March 2024, showcases Williams? solo guitar and voice in a wonderfully intimate set of songs. Brooks Williams is ?a guitarist in possession of rich vocal powers and a talent for lyrical imagery and uplifting generosity.? (RnR) Vera Van Heeringen, originally from The Netherlands, is rooted in transatlantic traditions, astute songwriting and firebrand instrumental virtuosity. In September 2019, Vera released her third album, Won?t Be Broken, which got rave reviews and has been described by the press as her best one yet. A compelling performer, Vera conveys an easy warmth on stage, allowing the music to speak for itself. Stripped back, potent, and full of groove. ?Vera is a master of the less-is-more lyric, conveying more in half-a-dozen words than lesser mortals do in half-a-dozen verses.? Brooks Williams Biography

Brooks Williams, from Statesboro, Georgia USA (the town made famous by country-blues legend Blind Willie McTell), tours like a hellhound is on his trail and creates a super-charged music that is electrifying and fighting-fit.

fRoots says of Williams, he "really rocks, stirring up soulful Americana, full-on blues and tasty rootsy grooves." Like drinking whiskey from a honey jar, you get both the sweet and the bite.

He's a great singer. In 2013 he was nominated ‘best male vocalist’ by the UK’s foremost roots-music mavens, Spiral Earth. AmericanaUK says, “he has a beautiful voice that you just melt into.” And he’s one helluva good guitar player, ranked in the “Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists.” The San Antonio Light says that Williams is a “fret monster who has to be seen to be believed!”

His songs are rooted in blues and old country (words like timeless, astute, archetypal just about cover it), but they are also alive with clearly-drawn ironic characters and they are rich in blues pathos.

Walking the line between blues and Americana, Brooks Williams has worked stages worldwide for over 25 years, amassing a staggering back-catalogue of songs, recordings and tales. With 28 CDs to his name,Williams has been called “Americana at its finest!”
